Types of Electromagnet

The electromagnets produced by our company mainly include the following types:

01

Tractive Electromagnet

Operating on a push-pull working principle, the Tractive Electromagnet features a compact, streamlined structure that enables linear reciprocating motion-delivering symmetric push-pull force and high positioning accuracy, making it ideal for applications demanding precise alignment.

02

Solenoid Valve Magnet

Solenoid Valve Magnet stands out with its space-saving compact design-merely 70% the size and 30% lighter than traditional counterparts, effortlessly fitting into tight installation spaces where conventional electromagnets fall short.

03

DC Electromagnet

As a high-performance component powered by a constant DC power supply, the DC Electromagnet delivers a stable, pulse-free magnetic field-eliminating operational jitters and ensuring the smooth, precise attraction and release actions that modern industrial systems deeply rely on.

Advantages of Electromagnet

High Clamping Force

Electromagnets provide considerable clamping force to ensure secure holding whilst in operation. The strong nickel plating aids with maintaining performance in demanding applications without being damaged.

Easy On-Off Operation

Electromagnets are versatile in that they can be easily turned on and off due to the requirement of a current needing to be applied for the electromagnet to operate. This versatility increases energy efficiency as handling times are significantly reduced.

Remote Operation

As electromagnets perform through a current, they can be operated remotely ensuring maximum safety and reducing operational risk.

Versatile Mounting

With multiple mounting sizes available, electromagnets can easily be used with many assembly arrangements for a wide range of applications.

Applications of Electromagnet

Relays and Switches
Electromagnets are widely used in relays and switches to open and close circuits by creating a magnetic pull when electricity flows, enabling remote or automatic control.

Electromagnetic Locks
These locks use electromagnets to secure doors. They engage when electricity is supplied and disengage when the power is turned off, making them useful in security systems.

Electric Motors and Generators

Electromagnets convert electrical energy into mechanical motion in motors or mechanical energy into electrical energy in generators. This technology is used in everything from household appliances to industrial machines.

Magnetic Lifting Devices

In industries such as construction and scrap metal processing, electromagnets are used to lift and move heavy metallic objects. The ability to turn the magnet on and off is crucial for these applications.

Medical Imaging (MRI Machines)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines use powerful electromagnets to generate a magnetic field that provides detailed images of the body’s internal structures.

Precautions for the Use and Installation of Electromagnets

1. Make sure the armature (contact surface) is soft magnetic steel and is an appropriate thickness. A thin contact surface will not provide as great a flux path and the electromagnet will underperform.

2. Make sure the electromagnet and the contact surface mate flush. Having the full contact surface of the electromagnet in contact with the armature is vital to the performance of the unit. Even a partial air gap will significantly decrease hold force.

3. Make sure the contact faces of the electromagnet and armature are clean. Dirt and grime between the contact surfaces will diminish the electromagnet’s hold force the same way that an air gap does.

4. Make sure that there is no shear force being applied to the electromagnet and armature. The rated forces for an electromagnet are measured as the force required to separate the two along the center axis of the electromagnet. Shear holding forces are much lower than the rated hold force values.

5. Apply the holding force gradually. Loading the electromagnet very quickly will create added inertial force and instability, and may cause the electromagnet and armature to separate.

Storage Precautions for Electromagnets
Store in a cool, dry place (around 20-25°C or 68-77°F), away from heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent demagnetization.
Use non-magnetic separators (cardboard, plastic) between magnets to prevent them from sticking or weakening each other.
Store in padded containers or their original packaging to prevent chipping or damage, as strong magnets can jump and cause injury or breakage.

FAQ

Q: What is an electromagnet in short answer?

A: An electromagnet is a type of magnet in which the magnetic field is produced by an electric current. Electromagnets usually consist of copper wire wound into a coil. A current through the wire creates a magnetic field which is concentrated along the center of the coil.

Q: Why are electromagnets?

A: Electromagnets are a different from permanent magnets. Electromagnets are made of coils of wire with electricity passing through them. Moving charges create magnetic fields, so when the coils of wire in an electromagnet have an electric current passing through them, the coils behave like a magnet.

Q: Can an electromagnet lift a car?

A: Above the chaos, a powerful electromagnet effortlessly lifts entire car frames, steel beams, and heavy machinery parts. This is the daily reality of scrap lifting magnets in industrial operations.

Q: How does electromagnetism work?

A: A moving charge (electrical current) produces a magnetic field, and a changing magnetic field produces an electrical field. The electromagnetic force is carried by photons. This force is linked to all light in the universe, including the light we see. The electromagnetic force has an infinite range.

Q: How is an electromagnet made?

A: An electromagnet is made by wrapping a coil of wire around a ferromagnetic core and passing an electric current through the wire. The flow of current generates a magnetic field, which magnetizes the core, creating a strong magnet.

Q: Can an electromagnet shock you?

A: A simple 9-volt battery should provide you with plenty of current to make a good electromagnet if you make plenty of loops of wire around a nail. An outlet in the wall is 120-volts. That would not only give you a very big shock if you touch the end of the wire, but it would cause the wire to heat up very very hot.

We are one of the most experienced electromagnet manufacturers and suppliers in China for over 30 years, also support customized service. Please feel free to buy bulk high quality electromagnet made in China here from our factory. Contact us for pricelist and quotation.
